Dayco Facility Update 2008

Since a letter of intent was signed in July of 2004, with Commercial Developers SE and Cedarwood Development, Haywood Advancement Foundation finalized a Brownfield Agreement for the Dayco property with NCDENR.  This agreement prevents current and future property owners from responsibility for site contamination caused by previous owners of the property.

Demolition of the Banbury area, to allow for remediation of the contamination, was conducted during the spring of 2007.  Final sale of the property took place on July 31, 2007, followed by complete demolition of all buildings and leveling of the property.

The two anchors of the property, now called Waynesville Commons, are Super Wal-Mart, who has taken possession of their pad and will be starting construction soon; and Home Depot, who plan to take possession of their pad in March of 2008.  Cedarwood Development continues to pursue contracts with other retailers to fill 4-5 out-parcels around the two main retailers.  Negotiations have also continued with the Town of Waynesville Planning and Appearance Committees and Town Aldermen for approval of the final layout and design for these out-parcels.

NCDOT has completed construction of the roundabout on Hyatt Creek at Exit 98 of State Route 23/74.  The widening of South Main Street and Hyatt Creek around Waynesville Commons will take place during the spring and summer of 2008.  Super Wal-Mart and Home Depot plan to be open for business in the fall of 2008.  Dates for completion of the out-parcels have not been set.
